Dreams can come true when we are passionate about them, but how many of us realize it all starts with writing them down?

[success]With a goal of helping people to spark a new professional dream, Sleddogg launched “the DREAM initiative”! I contacted people who I knew and people I didn’t know to find out if they had a dream of realizing aspirations beyond what they are currently doing. I challenged them to share. I gave them some fill-in-the-blank questions and challenged them to write it all down; which is actually the next step in achieving clarity. I asked them to share their dreams for a business or nonprofit idea — or a professional career.[/success]

Motion-picture Director Joan Darling – one of the pioneering female directors in America!

Joan DarlingJoan Darling worked regularly in mainstream Hollywood in the 1970s and 1980s; having directed popular TV shows such as M*A*S*H* and MAGNUM P.I. When TV Guide named the 100 best television episodes, “Chuckles Bites the Dust”, a MARY TYLER MOORE episode directed by Joan, was chosen as #1. Joan is also an accomplished actress. She has starred on Broadway and appeared on many television shows. She was nominated four times for an Emmy and twice for a Directors Guild of America (DGA) award; winning one Emmy and one DGA. Today Joan is an artistic advisor at the Sundance Filmmakers Lab, where she leads an acting workshop for directors on how to communicate their vision to actors and crew members. She also works with her husband, playwright-screenwriter Bill Svanoe, appearing onstage across the United States.

As accomplished as Joan is, she sets a fine example of doing even more…

Joan Darling’s ‘new’ dream: I would like to be a published author and go on book tours. While I am up, win an academy award for acting!

When I was little I wanted to be… a ballet dancer.

Now that I’m grown up, my dream is… pursue my spiritual education, growth and understanding while making happy (not desperate) efforts to achieve other goals.

My new dream in one word: GROW!!!

The challenges I am afraid of – the challenges I need to overcome: I had worked so hard to succeed at my previous careers that I am reluctant to commit to an effort that would get me back in the fray.

Can my dream be a reality? Yes! My reality date is: I have been working steadily on my new goals…and have moved the acting ambition forward by doing many plays for the last five years. Now all I need is that one role to come along that would make the work I have done on my acting visible to more people. But it is not worth it to me at my age to hustle for parts.

My DREAM date is…. People in the business. Making myself visible to the many people in the business that I still know…so they are aware of my availability.

We can’t achieve our dreams alone, we need help. Joan has identified the circle of influence that can help her achieve her dream. And did you sense how she is focused on surpassing her fears? Something tells me she’s already written her goals down…but I think this is the first time she’s shouted it out to the world. From a ballet dancer dream to award-winning actress and director, and soon to be touring author and academy award winner! Oh my, I can’t wait!

ViewMore-300x259So what’s the next step? It’s up to her  really. When will her book be ready to be published? Who’s writing that special movie script? How can she continue to get in front of the right people in ‘the business’? Hmm…will this blog post be a ‘remember me I’m here’ by going viral?
